The Lighthouse of Houston serves the community by
offering a wide variety of educational programs, community services, and
outpatient rehabilitation for the blind and visually impaired, including
Reflections, the Lighthouse Store.
Lighthouse Education
Programs include the Computer Learning Center, the Technology
Training Unit, and The Lighthouse Braille Department, all of which focus
on assisting blind and visually impaired individuals with finding employment.
Community Services
includes such activities as adult day
care, volunteer programs, recreation programs, low vision clinics,
summer camps, and residential programs. All activities are
designed to help visually impaired individuals regain independence and
become active members of their community.
Outpatient Rehabilitation
programs provide information and counseling on an outpatient basis to
blind and visually impaired individuals. Programs include Diabetes Education
Services, the Lighthouse of Houston Vision Rehabilitation Clinic, and
family, individual, and group counseling.
Reflections,
the Lighthouse Store,
is a specialty store for people with vision loss. The store offers adaptive aids such as talking clocks,
Braille watches, mobility canes, computer hardware and software and
hundreds of other items. The
Catalog of Visual Aids, which describes the various items
available at the store, is available on-line.
