This is the privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) of this website (the “Website”) made available by Lighthouse for the Blind of Houston, a Texas nonprofit corporation (“Lighthouse of Houston ”), as well as for the access to and use of any services supplied by Lighthouse of Houston ’ members (collectively, the “Services”). This Privacy Policy describes the information that Lighthouse of Houston collects from you as part of the normal operation of the Website and Services, as well as how Lighthouse of Houston uses and discloses this information.

IMPORTANT NOTE: By accessing or using the Website or Services, you expressly consent to Lighthouse of Houston’s collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information in accordance with the terms and conditions of this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy is incorporated into and subject to Lighthouse of Houston’s Website Terms of Use (“Terms”), available at www.houstonlighthouse.org. People who visit the Website or use the Services shall be referred to as “Users.”

In this Privacy Policy, reference is made Lighthouse of Houston’s “affiliates,” which shall include companies that are affiliated with Lighthouse of Houston by reason that these companies are in the same common ownership as Lighthouse of Houston. Affiliates shall also include the parent company of the group of which Lighthouse of Houston is a member.

Collection and Use of Information
This Privacy Policy relates to Lighthouse of Houston’s collection and use of any personal information through your use of Lighthouse of Houston’s Website and Services, and any personal information that you provide to Lighthouse of Houston, including through email. Lighthouse of Houston shall explain in this policy what information Lighthouse of Houston collects about you through your use of the Website and Services, and how Lighthouse of Houston uses that information.

Even if you only browse through the Website and read the information contained on the Website, Lighthouse of Houston will gather certain information about your visit automatically. Lighthouse of Houston may collect basic identifying information from Users, including but not limited to name, email address, and telephone number. For Users that access or use the Services, Lighthouse of Houston may collect other identifying information, including ID and postal address. Lighthouse of Houston may collect the above information, for example, during a registration process or through forms you voluntarily submit to us.

When you participate in, access or sign up to the Services, or any activities or online content, such as class or program information, email publications, blogs, e-newsletters, competitions, event invitations, calls-to-action for donations or Volunteers, or message boards, Lighthouse of Houston may receive personal information about you. This may consist of contact information (e.g., name, email address, physical address, and telephone number) but may also include other personally identifiable information. Lighthouse of Houston will use your personal information for a number of purposes which include, responding to your requests for information or e-newsletters, adding your details to Lighthouse of Houston’s list of persons who receive e-newsletters and providing these to you on a regular basis. Lighthouse of Houston will also compile data based on responses received from Users in order to allow Lighthouse of Houston to analyze the experience of Users so that Lighthouse of Houston can improve the Services and predict future services that Lighthouse of Houston may consider offering.

From Users who send e-mail inquiries to Lighthouse of Houston or request information from Lighthouse of Houston, certain personal information you provide will be used only for the purpose of responding to your inquiry.

Lighthouse of Houston may collect information that Users submit to the Website or Services, such as comments, uploaded media or User Content, contributions to discussions, or messages to other Users.

In addition, Lighthouse of Houston may collect information such as name, phone number, email address and desired position from Users applying for a job via the Website (e.g., via the “Employment” page). Lighthouse of Houston also collects information contained on resumes voluntarily uploaded or sent by job applicants, as well as any information or documentation sent to Lighthouse of Houston via email.

From time to time, Lighthouse of Houston may host or sponsor certain events, or may provide information regarding information of events or programs of Lighthouse of Houston’s members, some of which may be listed on our Website (“Programs”). In connection with Programs, Lighthouse of Houston may collect information such as name, email address, age, and phone number from Users seeking to attend such Programs or from Users who request information from Lighthouse of Houston regarding Programs.

Lighthouse of Houston may use certain third party payment processors (“Payment Processors”) to process personal financial information such as name, phone number, address, postal code, and credit card or bank account information for the purposes of allowing Users or Volunteers (as defined in the Terms) to make a donation to our organization’s fundraising efforts (collectively, the “Payment Transactions”). This information is provided directly to such Payment Processors by Users and Volunteers, and Lighthouse of Houston does not store this information on its servers or computer systems (with the exception of individual Users and Volunteers who consent to disclosure of the amount of a donation and/or the name(s) of the donor party). Such information is used solely for the purpose of allowing Users and Volunteers to make Payment Transactions.

Lighthouse of Houston may collect information such as name and email address from Users who sign up for any publications, blogs, or newsletters provided to you directly by Lighthouse of Houston or indirectly through individuals providing Services. Lighthouse of Houston also collects other information voluntarily provided by such subscribers to Lighthouse of Houston via email or via any sign-up or opt-in pages of the Website.

Children’s Information Policy
Lighthouse of Houston does not knowingly solicit any personal information from children under the age of 13. If Lighthouse of Houston is made aware that Lighthouse of Houston has collected personal information from a child under 13 years old in a manner that is inconsistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of the United States, then Lighthouse of Houston will delete this information as soon as practicable.

Cookies Policy
Lighthouse of Houston uses cookies, web beacons, log file information and similar mechanisms for all or any of the following purposes:

– To store information so that you will not have to re-enter it during your visit or the next time you visit the Website.
– To deliver custom, personalized content and information.Identify you when you access, visit, or log-in to the Website or Services.
– To note the different areas of the Website which have recently been accessed through your computer. Information collected in this way may be used to develop and manage the online services of Lighthouse of Houston by, for example, storing information about your preferences so as to enable Lighthouse of Houston to customize the Website according to your individual interests.

Disclosure, Sharing and Use of InformationThe information Lighthouse of Houston collects is used to respond to inquiries, improve the content of the Website, the quality of the Services, fill open positions within Lighthouse of Houston’s organization, and facilitate fundraising efforts, promotions, sweepstakes and contests, and to provide information to Lighthouse of Houston and its affiliates for their respective business purposes.

The personal information Lighthouse of Houston  collects is not sold to or shared with third parties, save and except: (1) as necessary to provide the Services, or any products or services you request in relation to the Services; (2) when Lighthouse of Houston  has your permission to share your information; (3) to register a Registrant for a Program; (4) when it is necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, or as otherwise required by law; (5) such information is seen by third parties who provide web services or professional services to Lighthouse of Houston  (including Payment Processors); (6) such information is shared with affiliates of Lighthouse of Houston ; (7) it is necessary to protect the rights and property of Lighthouse of Houston ; (8) in the event of a Transfer, as set forth in Section 6; (9) in response to request under applicable law (e.g., an order issued by a court of competent jurisdiction, or by a law enforcement agency); (10) when investigating and correcting technical problems and malfunctions in the Website or the computer systems that support the Website; or (11) it is necessary to investigate, prevent or take action with regard to a violation of the Website or Terms, or to enforce compliance with the policies governing the Website (including this Privacy Policy).

Personal information may be available to third parties as noted in the preceding paragraphs. Lighthouse of Houston makes no representations or warranties about the acts or omissions of such third parties, including whether such parties will keep such information confidential. When you contact Lighthouse of Houston and provide information to Lighthouse of Houston, you do so at your own risk, and Lighthouse of Houston shall not be liable for any misuse of such information by a third party.

Other than for Lighthouse of Houston’s marketing purposes, Lighthouse of Houston does not use your email address or other personal information to send commercial or marketing messages without your consent. Lighthouse of Houston may use your name, usage history and email address without further consent for non-marketing or administrative purposes (such as notifying you of major updates, customer service needs, or items for which you have requested communication).

Ownership and Storage of InformationLighthouse of Houston uses third party vendors and hosting partners to provide the necessary hardware, software, networking, storage, and related technology required to run the Website. Lighthouse of Houston and its licensors own the code, databases, and all rights to the Website and any feedback you provide, save and except that as between you and Lighthouse of Houston, subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy, you retain all rights to the personal information you provide to Lighthouse of Houston through the Website. If you incorporate into feedback any User Content (as defined in the Terms), you hereby grant Lighthouse of Houston a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, and display the User Content when operating the Website and for Lighthouse of Houston’s internal business purposes. Note that any User Content that you submit to the Website publicly, you acknowledge that such User Content is publicly accessible. Lighthouse of Houston may also indefinitely store any information that you provide to Lighthouse of Houston or any of its affiliates through the Website or Services. Lighthouse of Houston and its affiliates also reserve the right to delete such information for any reason and for no reason. Transfer of InformationCustomer lists and information are properly considered assets of a business. Accordingly, if Lighthouse of Houston  merges with another entity or if Lighthouse of Houston  sells its assets to another entity (collectively referred to as a “Transfer”), Lighthouse of Houston’s contact lists and information, which may include personal information you have provided Lighthouse of Houston , would be included among the assets that would be transferred and Lighthouse of Houston  would request that the entity treat your information in accordance with the Terms (including this Privacy Policy). Lighthouse of Houston makes no guarantees as to whether such entity will treat your information in accordance with the Terms (including the Privacy Policy) and disclaims any liability arising out of such entity’s failure to do so. This same provision is applicable for each affiliate of Lighthouse of Houston.

Although Lighthouse of Houston takes reasonable measures to ensure the security of the data you may choose to provide Lighthouse of Houston from loss or misuse, unfortunately the transmission of data through the Internet cannot be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Our Impact

The Lighthouse of Houston serves over 5,000 individuals on an annual basis through our many programs and services. Of those we employ, 40% are blind or visually impaired.
